Obama, Racism, Neocons

Let's say you really do believe that Obama is the best man for the job, that he will either bring America back to the lifestyle she grew accustomed to in the Clinton regime, or if you believe that there is no way he could fuck things up worse that the Neocons and deserves to lead for that reason. Let's say that as well as believing that Obama would be a good leader, you also believe that McCain would be a horrible one and promises more of what we currently have or worse, with the very good potential to bring about great tragedy for us all. Let's you believe all that with completely. You are convicted. Look at the polls. Look at the fact that enough Americans disagree with you to make this race close. Forget  conspiracy theories about the media manufacturing a close since these have nothing to back them up, look at what you can see.

 

There are Americans who, even if they knew for a fact that Obama would bring about change for the good would not vote for him simply because of the color of his skin. Racism isn't some rational, thought-out set of actions with a goal behind them, it is instinct, reaction without thought. The fact is that you can't reason somebody out of their instincts, you can't even temper it with the idea of self-preservation, it just is. It never changes.

So you are left with the fact that you are in the same boat with all these people who are (if you really do believe that Obama is the best leader for America now) bent on their own destruction. If Obama wins they benefit along with you. If he loses they suffer along with you. The questions you need to answer for yourself are: Do you want to be tied to these people and their bad decisions? And, do you really want them reaping the benefits of your good ones?
